Today I went to the Hmong New Year with Beth and her relatives. I meet Beth’s cousin’s family. Beth's cousin was a taxi driver, so I really gave him props for being such a brave driver. I could never drive in Paris, for the traffic is deadly. I was able to meet and actually practice my french with the little nieces and nephew. I taught them how to play card games like Goldfish, Slapjack and Spoons. I had to really use my french because they didn't know Hmong or English too well. I used my broken french to communicate with them, and I was super surprised how well they understood me. I kept asking them if I made sense or if they understood me, and they would just say, "oui, un peu" (yes a little).

The new year celebration was interesting. I would describe this New Years as a super small scale of the Hmong New Year in Milwaukee. This celebration was hosted by the Hmong women, hence it was so small. I wonder if the reason it was small was because it was hosted by women, or if there just wasn't a lot of Hmong people in the area? Even so I had a good time.
